Noah's 50 Mile to Davis Gulch Excursion

For a while now Noah has been planning this trip, he wanted to hike down 50 mile creek to Lake Powell, then paddle over to Davis Gulch via the Escalante Arm, and hike back up Davis Gulch. It is about 5 miles down 50 mile to the lake about 5 miles on the lake and then another 5 miles up Davis. Noah's dad Norm dropped them off at 50 mile then drove over to Davis and hiked down till he met them the next day in that canyon.

Here are Noah and Luke setting off on their voyage, with their boats on their backs!
The first night they slept in an alcove in 50 Mile.
Here is 50 Mile canyon

They are almost to the lake here, Noah is testing to see how deep the water is.

Finally they enter the lake!

Taking a break on the Escalante Arm

La Gorge arch

In Davis Gulch/the end of Lake Powell. A beautiful waterfall to welcome them.

The steps out of Davis

Climbing out of Davis, Short but steep!
Sunrise over the Grand Staircase

A beautiful, sucessful trip thanks to Luke (who was given no choice in the matter) and Norm the master route finder dispite misleading carins and difficult cross country route.
Noah is already planning his next trip 50 Mile creek to Willow creek!

Labor Day Camping Trip

Noah's goal this year is to go on more family camping trips. So for Labor Day weekend we went to Lonesome Beaver campground in the Henry Mountains.
Holden helped us by "tying" Athena up so she wouldn't get away or bother the other campers. There was only one other camper there, he was really nice and didn't mind Athena coming and visiting him. He was a geologist, and taught us about how to find dinosaur bones, he even gave one to Holden to take home.
On Saturday we went hiking. Holden did pretty well and hiked quite a bit, but he also got dad and grandpa to carry him.
Here is Holden taking a rest on a log, after a particularly difficult stretch of riding on grandpa's shoulders.
While on a 4wheeler ride Holden decided he wanted to race the 4wheeler with Athena.
We had a delicious dinner that night, Holden especially liked the corn on the cob.
Sunday it rained and rained and rained!

Holden and I cuddled up in my coat to keep dry and warm.
Here are the Henry Mountains under a beautiful sky!
We had a great weekend even if it was a little wet and windy.
